How Do You Get Over A Crush?

Theres this boy in my class and he's really cute. He's about my age too, but i don't know if he already has a girlfriend -- we don't really communicate with each other, but he sits beside me in English class and i get butterflies in my stomach whenever I'm beside him. He's super popular and I'm kind of an animal addicted nerd (I love spending time with animals). He has a miniature schnauzer! I know you might think this isn't a crisis, but it is to me because I've never liked anyone this way before. All the girls like him because he's popular, so I already know I don't stand a chance with him but I still have a crush on him and every time I try to make it go away, it never does! Please help me out with this!

Aw! That's so cute! BTW, it's not a bad thing to be an animal addicted nerd -- your crush is popular and he loves animals too (Exhibit A: He has a schnauzer). Plenty of cool people love animals, so don't think any less of yourself for loving animals too :)

Moving on -- try to tell him that you like him. I know -- and totally understand -- how it can be scary, but let them know how you feel. Don't come off as too strong, but keep it casual. Just put it out there that you like him, and that's it. Tell him it's totally cool if he doesn't feel the same way (even though you don't feel totally cool, but that's the way it works) and that you'd still like to be friends.

Making a crush go away is legitimately one of the hardest things to do. You have absolutely no control over who you like, your brain does that of its own accord. You're a teenager, and your brain is still in its growing phase, so it's even harder to stop liking people. However, you can certainly try. It's okay if you fail though. Try to get out your head this perfect image of them that you'e built up in your head. You've mentioned that you don't really know him that well, so he might have plenty of flaws too (everyone seems perfect on the outside, don't be fooled by that!). Focus on the aspects of him that you don't like so much, and you might be able to drive that feeling away. Ask yourself if you really want to be with a person who [insert flaw that you don't like about them]. 

It doesn't have to work -- don't be hard on yourself if it doesn't though. Time heals everything, even the biggest crushes. It might not seem like it, but what you're feeling could eventually fade away. 

And, always remember -- don't beat yourself up if the boy you like doesn't like you back. Don't try to change yourself for somebody else. You are the most amazing version of yourself in the universe, nobody else should get to change that or tell you that you're not awesome. Stay happy!
